     A word of caution

Generally speaking, understanding Vietnamese driving habits is extremely difficult for foreigners and it takes foreigners living in Vietnam often months if not years to fully grasp the written and unwritten rules of traffic. Road courtesy is non-existent and drivers generally do not check their blind spot or wing mirrors. Many drivers just use their horn to get motorcyclists out of their way. In addition, many roads do not have lane markings and even on those that do, drivers generally ignore the lane markings. As such, driving yourself in Vietnam is not recommended and you should leave your transportation needs in the hands of professionals. If you do hire a motorbike or a bicycle use it in a group that is led by a Vietnamese tour guide.
